Similar to what we described in the abstract we are presenting at the International AIDS Conference in August, this recent study published in Sexually Transmitted Diseases found that people tend to underestimate their partners’ sexual risk. This study recruited men and women attending STI clinics (not necessarily referring to partners they are in a romantic relationship with) and, interestingly, developed a “Partner Safety Beliefs Scale.”   Read up: Masaro et al. 2008 STD Abstract

I’m happy to write that this week we welcomed our second summer intern, Anna Boulos, to our team. Anna joins us during her summer break from her studies at Tufts University, where she is a rising sophomore. Anna is our Spanish translation specialist! She will be working on operationalizing all of our Spanish materials, making sure we are all set by the middle of the summer to accomodate participants that only speak Spanish. Welcome Anna!

Today we welcomed one of our summer interns who will be working with us through the Yale Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. Mihan Lee is a rising Yale Junior with a keen interest in ways in which sexism, racism, and poverty work in women’s lives, with regard to health care access, and morbidity and mortality. Among other projects, Mihan will concentrate this summer on collecting community level information as it relates to HIV/STD risk and pregnancy outcomes. Welcome Mihan!
