PARTNRS July Wrap Up

We’re winding down the month here at PARTNRS with a fantastic Friday.  We had a busy day today in the office with the PARTNRS team hosting 9 interviews of new parents.  July was also one of our busiest months ever, conducting a whopping 52 interviews! This is just another reason why we love our PARTNRS Parents!

August–Here we come!

PARTNRS Community Spotlight: Cornell Scott Hill Health Center

New Haven is lucky to have quality community health centers that provide medical and social support to young families in Connecticut – Cornell Scott Hill Health Center is one of those centers. Hill Health Center is a qualified community health center with numerous staff, such as physicians, mental health professionals, nurses and nurse practitioners, certified phlebotomists, social workers, nutritionists, dentists and dental hygienists. The health center provides quality health care services including outreach to homeless individuals and families, Birth-to-Three services for developmentally delayed children, school-based health centers, outreach and social/educational services for pregnant teenagers, HIV/AIDS education and outreach to at-risk populations, alcohol and drug detoxification programs, transitional shelter for homeless men, and a child and family guidance clinic. The center accepts most insurance, and is an excellent resource for primary and preventative care in New Haven.

PARTNRS Past and Present

At PARTNRS, we are always welcoming new contributors to the project in an effort to bring in new thoughts, ideas and energy toward our effort to strengthen families and prevent the spread of HIV and STIs.  We are also grateful for the previous contributions of many who have since moved on to wonderful positions and places, as they have helped make PARTNRS into what it is today.  We have contributors that have moved on to places like SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Data Analysis Coordination and Consolidation Center, Harvard Medical School, a Physician’s Assistant program, a Yale Faculty appointment, etc. Check out our updated Research Team page to learn more about the current team and where previous contributors are now! PARTNRS Community Spotlight: Fair Haven Community Health Center

The Fair Haven Community Health Center has been a nonprofit organization since 1971, serving the New Haven community.  The health center is comprised of numerous physicians and nurse practitioners that are eager to serve the healthcare needs of their patients.  Their goal is “to serve the community in a manner that respects their culture, language and ethnic beliefs. “  When they use the term community, they imply from the littlest child to the oldest elder.  Everyone is welcomed to the Fair Haven Community Health Center.  Adults can receive checkups, physical exams, cancer screening, as well as chronic disease screenings.  Specialists are also available for patients.  FHCHC especially encourages adolescents to visit for all their health needs.

FHCHC also provides extensive prenatal care, including prenatal visits, delivery by the midwife at the Hospital of St. Raphael, a home visit by a midwife after the delivery, and post-partum care.  Social services are also available to help patients with housing, personal, and financial problems.  FHCHC also administers STD testing.  The Fair Haven Community Health Center main site is open Monday through Thursday 8:45 AM to 8:30 AM.  The Friday schedule is 1:00P M to 5:00 PM.  For more information in regarding the center, log onto www.fhchc.org!

Here at PARTNRS, we’d like to thank FHCHC for providing young couples and families in New Haven with affordable health services, and for contributing to the fight against STDs and HIV!
